Update on PSN Compromise

April 27, 2011

Well, things aren’t looking very good for Sony Computer Entertainment America at the moment.  They are currently being sued, their stocks have plummeted and they’re losing trust from the PSN users.  Now, Sony has gone “off-the-record” to state that users credit card information is most likely safe.  Either way, they recommend that once the network goes back up, to change your password.  Also, if you made your password on the PSN the same as your e-mail’s, I would change that as well…just to play it safe.  Keep an eye on your credit card bill to make sure there are no “false” purchases and contact your bank to notify them on the situation.  Doing so would at least prepare them to understand what they should be paying attention to with your account information.  Possibly canceling the card your have now (credit or debit) and asking for a card with a new number is a good way to combat any “hackers” who may have your card information to charge anything.  Sony has confirmed however that trophies information and wallet funds have not been affected at all.  Those of you who were worrying about that can be at ease.  The network is being rebuilt from scratch so it may be another couple of days before it’s back up.  While this is quite an unfortunate situation, bare with Sony as they are working day and night to give us our network back with enhanced security.  Sony is not to blame here, these low-life hackers are the ones that need to be found and brought to justice.
