The New Batman Game is…a First-Person Shooter?!

May 16, 2011

Apparently, Monolith (the studio known for F.E.A.R. and Condemned) is currently working on “Gotham City Impostors” for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam.  The game is going to be a multiplayer only FPS that puts players in the roles of two different groups, “The Bats” and “The Jokerz.”

“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first-person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior VP of Warner Bros.’ Production and Development.  “Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker.”

Well, this news was certainly unexpected.  However, the only thing that comes to mind after hearing this was the horrendous “Punisher: No Mercy” that came out exclusively for the PSN.  Granted, Monolith is a talented studio but this just sounds a bit odd.  Sound off your thoughts in the comments.
