EA’s Origin Set to Rival Steam, PSN & XBL

News

Remember those days when people said that EA should just create their own console market?  Well, EA seems to be taking a half-a-step closer toward that territory.  Their new service that was announced during their E3 Press Conference called “Origin” is aiming to be very similar to Steam, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.  Not only will it be a store, but also a community and platform in itself.  To ensure that people utilize the service, EA is going to be releasing titles exclusively through the Origin service.  The first title, under the “Only for Origin” tagline will be “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”  This means that the only way you’ll get your hands on BioWare’s long-awaited MMO is by purchasing it through Origin.

Watch out Steam, Origin is coming...

Origin is currently in the beta phase but plans to be fully functional in the coming months.  Is EA planning something bigger by using Origin as it’s stepping stone?  Sound off in the comments!
