The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords is Strictly Local Multiplayer

September 26, 2011

This week marks the week many 3DS and DSi owners have been waiting for.  The updated and free downloadable title, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be hitting the DSi Shop Channel and Nintendo eShop this Wednesday, September 28th.  While the regular store will update on Thursday, Nintendo is doing a special release for this much anticipated downloadable revamp.  However, many have asked if it will have online coop.  Well unfortunately…no.

Courtesy to 3DS Tribe for providing the details, they found out that the downloadable title will be limited strictly to local play.  While it’s a bit of downer hearing this, it is understandable seeing that the game is FREE.  Now remember, the game will only be available from September 28th until February 20th, 2012.  If  you’re bummed about the fact that you can’t play online with other people because you don’t know many people with either a 3DS, DSi or DSi XL, then it is your duty to try and convince your buddies to get one of the following systems so you could experience the game the way it was supposed to be experienced.

hypothetically, could I borrow a friend’s DSi/3DS, log them out, create my own account, download the game, and then transfer it to a 3DS that I will inevitably buy somewhere down the line? I really want this game, but I really don’t want to get a 3DS until they release the 3DS lite or whatever it will be.

Unless there’s some sort of online storefront for the Nintendo eShop that I don’t know about.

Unfortunately, Nintendo’s online structure doesn’t allow for multiple users. I’m pretty sure that once a user is registered, it is applied to that console as well. As far as the 3DS “lite” goes, Nintendo stated not to expect a redesign for the 3DS until 2013. However, that was prior to their “second circle pad” add-on they unveiled so they may end up redesigning a new 3DS by late 2012.

That sucks. I really want Four Swords. With the right partners, it’s fantastic.

And that’s why I figured they’d be done sooner. I really don’t feel like buying an attachment for a handheld. Also, in my opinion, the DS Lite, GBA SP, and the Gameboy Pocket/Color are significantly better than the originals. So I’m hoping that the 3DS follows suit.

Waiting patiently (maybe not so much) for the game to be available in the US! Been looking forward to it since it was announced.

I’m actually sad I sold my 3DS now!
