NYCC 2011: “The Amazing Spider-Man” Movie Game Unveiled

October 16, 2011

During the “Marvel Video Games” panel, Beenox and Activision showed off the world exclusive gameplay trailer of “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Gerard Lehiany, director at Beenox, stated that the game will have it’s own unique storyline that runs parallel to the new “reboot” that’s hitting theaters next summer. While not many details were given, it appears to be bringing Spidey back into NYC for another open-world adventure. The trailer shows off Spider-Man free-falling, web swinging and web zipping his way through the city, which looked incredibly fast-paced. He then encounters a massive spider robot that breaks out of the ground and the trailer ends there. Beenox has proven to me that it can handle the Spider-Man license, which is why I’m excited for this game. Gerard said the game has been in development for well over a year already and they are including a new gameplay mechanic that ensures to make players “feel” like Spider-Man.

During the Q&A session of the panel, I had asked Gerard if they would be implementing a cinematic approach to the game in the vein of Spider-Man: Edge of Time. He stated that it will very well return as they are really trying to make this a truly unique installment in Spider-Man’s series of games. The Amazing Spider-Man is set for release in Summer 2012.

Check out the trailer below (sorry for the choppy quality)!
