Is 2012 Shaping Up to Be Bigger than 2011?

October 21, 2011

Editorials, News

Normally, we see our massive AAA titles hit shelves between the September through November months every year. Occasionally, some of our personal titles that we look forward to come out throughout other months of the year. For many, it’s mainly just the Fall season. Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3, Skyrim, AC: Revelations, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are most of the heavy hitters remaining to come out this season. With all the talk that’s surrounding this Fall’s lineup of titles, 2012’s early lineup is being quite overlooked.

Simply put, 2012 is already shaping up to be quite a year…and mostly in the beginning this time around, not the Fall. Here’s a list of games that many may not realize are coming sooner than you think:

– Anarchy Reigns (Q1 2012)

– Ninja Gaiden III (Q1 2012)

– Silent Hill: Downpour (Q1 2012)

– Silent Hill HD Collection (Q1 2012)

– Final Fantasy XIII-2 (January 31, 2012)

– Soul Calibur V (January 31, 2012)

– Darkness II (February 7, 2012)

– Devil May Cry HD Collection (February 7th, 2012)

– Resident Evil: Revelations (February 7, 2012)

– SSX (February 14, 2012)

– Twisted Metal (February 14, 2012)

– Asura’s Wrath (February 21, 2012)

– Syndicate (February 21, 2012)

– PlayStation Vita (February 22, 2012)

      – LittleBigPlanet

      – Modnation Racers: Roadtrip

      – Ridge Racer

      – Touch My Katamari

      – Uncharted: Golden Abyss

– Mass Effect 3 (March 6, 2012)

– Street Fighter X TEKKEN (March 6, 2012)

– Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (March 20, 2012)

– Dragon’s Dogma (March 27, 2012)

– Max Payne 3 (March 2012)

Notice how the list above consists of all these games (and system) releasing within the first three months of 2012. While not all of these games will interest everyone, these are the main big ones listed for the first quarter of 2012. And if it wasn’t enough that there were this many games coming out, there is a whole new handheld entering the market, PlayStation Vita, along with it’s launch titles. Keep in mind, there will most definitely be more launch titles announced in the coming months, but Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet and Modnation Racers already show that the PS Vita will have great launch titles.

While this year still has yet to come to an end with it’s stellar upcoming titles, this was just to serve as a reminder that the first three months of 2012 may be even bigger than this Fall. You may have to start saving up now if you plan on getting a chunk of the titles (and system) listed above. What games are you guys interesting in/getting? Are you getting the PS Vita as well? Sound off in the comments!

lol…oh my days…that is way too much man!
March is a crazy contender month!
I have a good feeling Ninja Gaiden 3 might be due for Feb.
Man I hope it doesn’t come out March because it wouldn’t stand a chance!

I find the dates for Asura’s Wrath and Dragon’s Dogma hard to believe. It doesn’t make much sense for Capcom to release two brand new IP’s on the same date. I’m eagerly awaiting both of them, though.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I found it really odd that both of these games were scheduled for the same release date. I’m sure they won’t be released on the same day but they’ll probably be released within a month of each other.
