Resident Evil: Revelations Scores a 9.0 from Nintendo Power – “Scariest Resident Evil in a Long Time”

January 11, 2012

In the January/February 2012 issue of Nintendo Power (be sure to pick it up for the full review), they had the chance to review Resident Evil: Revelations and awarded it an excellent 9.0. They stated that it’s the “scariest Resident Evil in a long time” and that the cruise ship “proves to be the most discomforting setting since the original RE’s Arklay mansion.”

The game paces itself by having Jill’s segments play much more like the original RE titles while playing as Chris will bring in more of the action-heavy moments. The reviewer stated that, “Mixing those classic and contemporary play styles in a single game creates a varied pace that serves Revelations well.” Here’s what they had to say about the visuals and audio:

“No other N3DS game looks this good. Every scene is rendered with incredible detail, the lighting and texture work are phenomenal, and little touches like intricate reload animations make it clear the developers weren’t about to cut corners just because Revelations is a handheld game. Likewise, there are some jaw-dropping CG cinematics sprinkled throughout, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack stands out as the best in franchise history.(One particularly haunting piece near the end even features a choir.)”

The only complaint they had was that the story is unfortunately a “convoluted mess” and doesn’t tie-in with previous installments, nor does it lead into Resident Evil 5. However, they said it’s not a big issue at all seeing as how high the production values are across the board. They also praised the game’s new Raid Mode as a deeper experience than what The Mercenaries 3D offered as a full game.

Resident Evil: Revelations is set to hit North America on February 7th.

Well, not like I needed this review to tell me all of this; I was going to buy the game regardless.
