Insomniac Finished with “Resistance” Franchise

January 26, 2012

News

Insomniac Games, the creators of Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, have just confirmed they are done with the Resistance franchise. Insomniac’s CEO, Ted Price, told VG247 “We won’t be making any more Resistances.”

Insomniac has now opened a new division called “Insomniac Click” to gear toward social games. Not much is known about their new branch other than that they aim to create “deep worlds, rich stories, [and] accessible gameplay.”

“Certainly over the next couple years, we’re going to see a huge evolution in visuals in social games,” Price said. “It’s thanks to improving technologies. It’s thanks to browsers that are getting better and more powerful. It’s thanks to development teams – core traditional game teams who are moving into the space.”

It’s a bit of a shame to hear that they’re done with the Resistance franchise but it’s understandable. The series ended on a high note despite the lacking ending to Resistance 3. Unfortunately, many never even gave Resistance 3 a look due to the mixed results that Resistance 2 fared with consumers.  However, Resistance 3 (our review here) is a game that any fan of the original Resistance or FPSs in general should check out!
