Nintendo Reserves Supermario4.com

Anyone trying to visit Supermario4.com will be immediately re-directed to Nintendo’s main web site. Additionally with this domain transfer report, it would appear that Nintendo is trying to scoop up the rights to several web domains. Whether this is simply a precautionary measure on Nintendo’s part or a foreshadowing of things to come remains to be seen, but given that the Mario franchise is one of Nintendo’s core series, it wouldn’t be far off to guess a sequel is in the works. The apparent tentative title, Super Mario 4, might indicate a return to the series’s roots; perhaps we’ll see a sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. 3, or maybe this title will change down the road? Nintendo’s investors meeting earlier this year revealed plans for a new 2D Mario game for the 3DS within the next fiscal year; this might be it. However, all we can do is speculate at this point, but be sure to stay tuned as we find out more information on this exciting development.

Worst case scenario is this is simply the result of prevention. After the fiasco Activision had with the Modern Warfare 3 domain, it wouldn’t surprise me to see other companies follow suit.

Or it’s a legit Mario game. And considering Nintendo announced a new 2D Mario game, the idea of a “Mario 4” is entirely out of the question either.
