Avengers Assemble with Ubisoft; “Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth” Announced

News

It was just last week that I posted an article discussing how I’m surprised there was no Avengers game in the works. I even stated how I was disappointed that the arcade game, Captain America and the Avengers, wasn’t remastered in HD seeing as how it was the opportune time for that. Well, in an interview with Associated Press, Ubisoft confirmed that they are working on “Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth” for the Wii U and Xbox 360 Kinect. Tony Key, Ubisoft’s VP of Sales and Marketing, stated that Ubisoft Quebec, one of the studios involved with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, will be behind the development of this title. Here’s what Mr. Key had to say:

“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past. This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.”

Interestingly, the game will not be based on the recent film release. Instead, players will control Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and Hulk to fight off the Skrulls invading Earth. The story will be based on the “Secret Invasion” comic series that was released and will contain over 20 Marvel characters that make an appearance.

It is still a bit unclear exactly what type of game “Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth” will be, especially considering it’s for both the Wii U and Kinect on 360, two totally different control schemes. Tony also mentioned that the game will be “family friendly” despite its action/fighting heavy concept. He stated that we will see the title in action at E3 next month so stay tuned for that.

What do you guys think? It may not be Captain America and the Avengers HD, but an Avengers game is indeed on the way. Sound off in the comments!
