Doom 3 BFG Edition Coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 This Year

May 30, 2012

id Software has thrown us a real curve-ball with its announcement of something totally unexpected: Doom 3 will be coming back to PC and consoles this year. However, this isn’t just a fresh coat of paint on a horror classic. Aside from including copies of Doom 3, its expansion “Resurrection of Evil”, and Doom 1 and 2, the “BFG Edition” will include a whole slew of improvements, including:

  • Vastly improved graphics
  • A brand-new solo campaign with 7 new levels
  • A new checkpoint system
  • Suit-mounted light – we can actually SHOOT now!

Perhaps the most exciting addition, however, is added support for 3D TVs, monitors, and even head-mounted displays! That’s right, VR is coming to Doom 3. This should really improve the immersion, making players feel like they’re actually romping through a demon-infested moon base.

While this is some exciting news for Doom fans, it also seems to be an obvious ploy to draw attention away from Doom 4; looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to play it, but this new and improved Doom 3 should keep us busy until then.
