Konami’s Pre-E3 Press Conference Rundown

June 1, 2012

News

Konami got a jump on its competitors by holding a press conference in the wee hours of the night, at 1AM EST. Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Digital Entertainment, hosted the event, and set out to detail Konami’s upcoming lineup for 2012 and 2013. For anyone who missed it, here’s the basics of what he revealed to the public.

Mr. Tsuboi began the conference by detailing an initiative being headed by a brand-new office in San Francisco. Konami is planning to put more attention into the social media and mobile markets, and will likely release many of their back-catalog titles on Facebook and mobile phones with added connectivity features. In all likelihood, these games will be enhanced with multiplayer and chat support.

Konami is also taking a crack at EA and their FIFA franchise, announcing a resurgence in their Pro Evo Soccer game. Promising improved graphics and audio, and showing off a motion capture recording for player models, Tomoyuki promises the best Soccer experience available on the PS3 to date once PES ’13 is released.

Next, some unfortunate news. Zone of the Enders HD, which has garnered a lot of attention since its announcement, has still not had a release date set, not even an estimate. In spite of this, Tomoyuki showed off an exciting opening cinematic, seen below, and briefly got into the development process for the game. While it’s good to have some content to whet our appetites, it’s likely to make the wait for Zone of the Enders HD even more agonizing.

On to more encouraging news, the Metal Gear Collection will be released on the Vita next week. Additionally, Tomoyuki presented viewers with some additional Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance footage, and announced that the game will be playable at E3 2012. The game will likely see a release window of “Early 2013”.

Finally, the conference closed with a look at their upcoming sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The reveal trailer showed  was stunning and cinematic, and showed off many of the staples from LoS 1, including massive bosses, intricate artwork, and a return of the hack-and-slash gameplay so intrinsic to LoS. Keep a lookout at GamersXtreme.org to see the reveal trailer and other highlights later today.

Given Mr. Tsuboi’s allusions to further content being shown off at E3, it’s clear Konami isn’t showing all their cards at this press conference. Stay tuned to GamersXtreme as we cover everything E3 2012 has to offer from June 4-5.
