DC Universe Online Becomes Free to Play in October

News

Lorin Jameson, Executive Director of Development at Sony Online Entertainment, just announced on the PlayStation.Blog that DC Universe Online will no longer require a paid subscription to play online.  Even better, the game will also be available to download off the PSN for the very low price of…FREE. That’s right, you’re eyes aren’t deceiving you.  With this new free method of playing the game, SOE has created three different levels of access to the game and mentioned it as so on the PS Blog:

  • Free Access – Just like it sounds. Download and play the game for free. You also get all ongoing game updates (except DLC packs).
  • Premium Access – This next level of access opens up to you if you spend at least $5 in the in-game store. Premium Access grants you additional benefits that improve your experience in the game, such as more inventory slots, more character slots, bank slots and more free Vault tickets. So all you have to do is pick up some cool items in the store or buy a DLC pack and you unlock Premium Access. The best part? Once you unlock Premium Access you keep it for the life of your account.
  • Legendary Access – With Legendary Access you can unlock the maximum level of features and benefits. To unlock Legendary Access you can pay for a $14.99 per month game pass, or save big with a discounted multi-month pass. Lifetime members are automatically granted Legendary access. Legendary Access also includes all DLC packs at no extra charge.
For those who are already subscribers, you will automatically be given Legendary Access.  For those who purchased the game already but don’t play based on a month-by-month subscription, you will earn Premium Access right off the bat.
Well DC fans, excited to get into Gotham and Metropolis and decide the fate of each city?  Sound off your thoughts below!

Dc Universe Online going Free-To-Play was expected by many players. You can say it was just a matter of time and now here it is. I just hope the download isn’t too big.

It definitely was just a matter of time. I actually received the Collector’s Edition of the game as a gift last month and after installing the game with it’s updates, it took up 17 GB. So the download is big but it’s been really entertaining!
